Dustin graduated with his Bachelors and Masters in aerospace engineering from Purdue University. Simon Xu is Engineering Group Manager for Vehicle Optimization, Architecture Strategy at General Motors Technical Center. Simon is an acknowledged expert in advanced optimization techniques such as parametric modeling, morphing, topology optimization and multi-disciplinary optimization. Amberlee Haselhuhn Director for Materials & ICME at LIFT, Amberlee Haselhuhn, has appeared in “30 Under 30: Recognizing the future leaders of manufacturing” in SME’s advancedmanufacturing.org. Amberlee is an avid researcher who has led research in welding and joining dissimilar materials, including high-strength steel. Haselhuhn earned her BS and PhD in materials science engineering and a BS in biomedical engineering from Michigan Tech. She holds a patent in control of intermetallic compound growth in aluminium-to-steel resistance welding and is proactively driven to deliver manufacturing solutions for the future.
Dr. Tarek Belgasam has worked on computational and experimental mechanics of materials for 10 years. Dr. Belgasam earned his PhD in ME from Washington State University. As Senior Materials Research Engineer at Honda Research & Manufacturing of America, he supports automobile component materials development and design. During research, he applies computational material simulations, machine learning, probabilistic design and optimization to industrial applications.

The workshop will cover the first two lessons from Evotech CAE's upcoming online course on 'Introduction to Non-Linear FEA with MSC Apex', which will cover non-linear FEA fundamentals through the MSC Apex
and MSC Nastran Advanced Non-Linear workflow.
- Session 1 (120 mins) - 'Introduction' covering an MSC Apex/MSC Nastran SOL400 software overview, an introduction to non-linear FEA, a typical workflow, analysis settings and a complete double lap shear joint worked example.
- Session 2 (120 mins) - 'Efficient Non-Linear FEA Modeling', covering model build for non-linear FEA, building confidence in non-linear FEA, automation for non-linear FEA and a complete spigot contact worked example.

This workshop covers multiple topics that span metal manufacturing process simulation.
Session 1 (1.5 hrs) - An overview of sheet metal welding and mechanical joining simulation technologies that can be used to predict weld nugget size/joint geometry, strength of the joint, and defects such as cracking, liquid metal embrittlement (LME), lack of fusion/interlock. The session will also illustrate the ability to predict full scale BIW assembly simulation to predict the deformation due to clamping and welding process, including a new fast resistance spot welding (RSW) simulation approach that is up to 300X faster than existing simulation approaches.
Session 2 (1.5 hrs) - An overview of metal forming and costing simulation software technologies that can be used to optimize process parameters and tooling, minimize material utilization, predict thinning, splitting, and other defects, and generally minimize the time and cost to market. The session will also introduce Hexagonâ€™s improved explicit sheet metal formability solution.
Session 3 (1 hr) - Introduction to the Smart Assembly Shop: a software solution designed to evaluate complex metal assembly processes through seamless integration of physical measurement data and simulated assembly process data to enable users to evaluate, predict, and mitigate manufacturing issues throughout the product development process.

Session 1 (2 hrs): System simulation:: Offering fast, multi-fidelity, multi-domain modelling and analysis, Hexagon's new system simulation solution enables users to test out designs and solve performance problems early to accelerate product development. Its multiple domain coverage allows you to capture and simulate various physical elements in a single model, to help solve multibody, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic problems. In this workshop, attendees will learn how Hexagonâ€™s new system simulation solution can enable them to perform rapid creation of system-based models, using intuitive drag and drop libraries to connect components from multiple domains into a single system model. You will also learn how our system simulation solution is connected to other Hexagon products such as Adams and Easy5, in ways which will deliver a powerful end-to-end simulation experience. No matter what industry you are in, our system simulation solution will support early decisions and system integration tasks for automotive, aerospace, energy, robotics and much more.
Session 2 (2 hrs): Adams Real Time:: Adams RT: Adams Real Time supports the use of detailed Adams models for validation in HiL, SiL, ADAS, and Simulator applications. Existing models may be leveraged without dramatic simplification or error-prone model translations to different tools. This one tool/many applications approach can remove weeks from the typical vehicle development programs. In this workshop, our product development team will give an overview of the latest capabilities in Adams Real Time and will demonstrate the workflow to take an Adams model to the VI-grade vehicle simulator.

Session 1 (1.5 hrs): SMCs (Sheet Molding Compounds) for battery enclosures: When incorporating SMCs into battery enclosure designs, they are typically modeled with isotropic properties. This is an incorrect assumption as the manufacturing process, typically compression molding, and the charge patterns can have a significant impact on the stiffness and failure of the part. During this section we will discuss the:
- Challenges when manufacturing SMC materials
- Manufacturing processes and how it influences structural responses
- Ways simulation can help address these concerns by connecting manufacturing processes with structural responses
Session 2 (1 hr): Thermal shock with composite materials: Thermal shock is a phenomenon that arises when a part is rapidly cooled after being at a high temperature. The surface layers contract against the inner layers, leading to the development of tensile stresses and, ultimately, failure. During this section we will discuss the:
- Challenges when addressing thermal shock for reinforced plastic materials
- Need to capture the anisotropic CTEs experienced by these composite materials
- Ability to utilize our solution to accurately predict the thermal shock phenomena
Session 3 (1.5 hrs): Virtual material characterization with Nexus Material Enrich: With the ever-expanding list of composite materials being used in EVs there is a need to test and characterize all these different material systems. This process can be very expensive and time consuming, especially if you need to test the material at multiple temperatures, strain rates, relative humidity etc. During this section we will discuss:
- The challenges when putting together material characterization test campaigns
- Using physics-based models and machine learning to reduce test campaign sizes
- Filling in gaps in existing material data spaces to have a more complete portfolio

Session 1 (1.5 hrs): ePowertrain NVH: In ePowertrain design, good NVH performance is critical to meet high customer expectations, but there are many challenges to achieving this. Find out how you can design ePowertrains for good NVH and acoustic performance, to develop higher quality products at reduced development times and costs. In this session, learn how to:
- Get fast NVH results from the start of the powertrain design phase in Romax Spectrum.
- Get further insight with more advanced analysis in Actran.
- Simulate and optimize porous covers and encapsulations for maximum noise reduction, taking into consideration sound quality metrics.
- Perform what-if analyses that will lead to the reduction of noise of an electric motor with a dedicated workflow within the Actran Workflow Manager.
Session 2 (2.5 hrs): NVH Analysis for Low-Mid-High Frequencies: This session aims to show how you can analyse noise (airborne and structure-borne) and vibration issues with simulation, get valuable insight and evaluate noise reduction solutions for the complete frequency range. In this session, learn how to:
- Combine and manage multiple components of a structure to form a complete assembly without the need to use additional connection elements or worry about the ID numbering schemes with MSC Nastran Modules.
- Tackle larger problems faster and more efficiently with MSC Nastran's ACMS solver.
- Evaluate trim components with extreme accuracy with MSC Nastran's Poroelastic Material (PEM) modeling.
- Leverage Actran's newest workflow based on Autoneum's technology for identifying the size, shape and ideal location of damping pads while meeting weight constraints.
- Easily extend your existing finite element models to higher frequencies, perform transfer path analysis in the full frequency range to clearly discriminate between airborne and structure-borne noise and identify the most effective design changes for meeting NVH targets through Actran SEA.
- Quickly iterate on SEA models and design the optimal sound absorbing package for reducing airborne noise with the new SEA manager.

Session 1 (1.5 hour) - ODYSSEE is a data-driven software that uses machine learning and reduced order modelling techniques to build parametric predictive and optimization models to solve different engineering problems. In this session, I will introduce ODYSSEE and discuss its primary capability to generate parametric models in different fields including structural, safety and multi-body dynamics. This session will include:
- Automated process to generate training datasets
- Building precise machine learning models
- Performing sensitivity analysis and real-time predictions
Session 2 (1.5 hour) - ODYSSEE is a software that provides a complete solution package. It can perform optimization and animation predictions along with numerical dataset responses. This session will include:
- Animation prediction capability demonstration for Nastran and LS-DYNA
- Performing optimization to meet the objective function requirements
Session 3 (1 hour) - ODYSSEE can train on different sources of information including image files and CAD model files. This session will demonstrate the customization capability of ODYSSEE A-Eye.
